Board Member Since 2000
I have been riding along the Santa Ana River since the 1960's. A time when there was a stable on almost every street that intersected the river and every discipline of riding was available. In the 1980's my own horses were boarded on the SART in Fountain Valley.
At that same location I was working with a gentleman starting race horses and yes we did that on the SART when we heard that there was going to be construction along the river by the Army Corp of Engineers and a possible loss of the riding trail in the late 1980's. So along with other horse and bike enthusiasts and the trail planning staff of then Orange County Harbors Beaches and Parks we worked to help insure that the riding a hiking trail along the Santa Ana River remained intact and the remaining portions of the Orange County Master Plan of Riding and Hiking trails could be completed when and where the opportunity presented itself .
We do have the trail on the SART but lost all of the stables but 1 along the river. I would like to see a continued interest in the completion of the master plan and the slowing of stable losses. I am still on the SART at Rancho Del Rio /Anaheim Equestrian Center and have 2 horses that I ride as much as I can in our county and state parks, or on trail.
